Everyone is talking about it but what is it? Rather than reinvent the wheel this page points you to a few pages on the web that will help you understand this new technology and get set up with what you need.

What is Podcasting?

A good introduction to podcasting can be found at the Podcasting News website. Beware - not every link on this site will be to wholesome material!! There is also a good introduction at the Wikipedia site.

What do i need to receive a Podcast?

Ideally you need a computer with a broadband internet connection. Most modern Interent Browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Chrome etc.) automatically provide access to podcasts, if not you may have to download a plugin for example the one for Chrome is here. You may chose to get a piece of software that you can download from the Internet for free called an RSS Aggregator. This piece of software allows you to subscribe to particular "channels" of news that you want to stay up with (e.g. the WICS podcast).

Is Podcasting just about Audio?

Most people talk about Podcasting in terms of the audio files (or video files) that are downloaded from feeds that you subscribe to. However, one of the most exciting things about this technology is the underlying RSS technology which allows you to sign up to a regular news feed from a particular source (e.g. Wyclif) and stay up to date with what is going on. There may be audio files from time to time but the "Podcast" could just be text and/or pictures.

Are There Christian Podcasts?

Oh Yes!! Check out the GodCast Network for details of some of the Christian and family friendly podcasts out there.
